Washington, D.C., July 16,
2004: The Republiphants created a huge brouhaha in the Capitol
Building, and, predictably and thankfully, failed to pass the
opposite sex marriage amendment in the Senate. But it was a
smoke screen keeping the Senators from focusing on real issues, many
pundits even in the media are reporting. Issues such as
getting people to support same sex NIPtuals for our pets and their
wild relations!
The real challenge
facing those who favor same sex muttrimony for feathery, furry and
slithery couples is that the ultra-conservatives who care about this
issue are pushing states to put the question of whether the states
should sanction same sex marriage to a vote in the November
election. This means they may energize people whose vote
usually goes to the Republiphants but who are this time around
disaffected, who have lost faith in the way things are going in our
country, to get out and vote anyway if they care about this one
issue.
This
makes it all the more imperative that those of you who care about
our civil liberties also get out and vote!
We're not gonna tell you how to vote. That's your choice.
But if you care about rights such as same sex marriage for all,
regardless of species or gender, then we strongly urge you, get out
and vote in November! And tell all your friends how important
it is that your bark be heard!
